If you are on the hunt for products to help you to manage your excessive sweating it is worth remembering the difference between antiperspirants and deodorants.

Deodorants are designed to reduce the body odor caused by the bacterial breakdown of sweat. It’s the bacteria that thrive on the sweat that causes body odor rather than the sweat itself. Deodorants not only fight these bacteria but they also mask the odor with perfume.

Antiperspirants on the other hand attempt to reduce the body’s production of perspiration. Typically, antiperspirants use an aluminum-based compound to produce a substance that plugs up the sweat glands, reducing their ability to produce perspiration.

If you suffer from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) you should ensure that the products you try are antiperspirants. These products will help to control the volume of sweat you produce.

If you find that over-the-counter antiperspirants do not work for you then talk to your doctor about stronger prescription based alternatives.

Although many sufferers recognise the link between anxiety and hyperhidrosis, relatively few try anxiety treatments as a way to help reduce their excessive sweating.

This is a shame because, for many, treating anxiety is the key to beating excessive sweating.

There are a wide range of treatments for anxiety and panic attacks, ranging from everyday relaxation techniques through to strong prescription medication.

I have posted a Hub Page that describes the link between anxiety and excessive sweating in more detail.

I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences with anxiety treatments and how they have impacted your excessive sweating.

Here’s an incredible tip that might help you to stop your excessive sweating once and for all!

It turns out that the herb sage has developed a reputation in the hyperhidrosis sufferers community as a powerful treatment for excessive sweating.

You can use it in two ways:

  • Drink sage tea. Place fresh or dried sage into hot water and allow it to brew for a couple of minutes before removing the leaves. Drink the tea when it has cooled slightly.
  • Apply the same tea (when cold) directly on the skin in the places you sweat most. Allow the liquid to dry naturally.

Now, don’t expect sage to work its magic overnight. Try drinking one cup of sage tea per day for 3 to 4 weeks and see if you notice any difference.

Let me know your experiences with sage. Has it worked for you?
