Tips on How to Stop Sweating

In this article I will describe some of the best tips I know on how to stop sweating.

How to Stop SweatingPlease understand that these tips aren’t going to work for everyone because there are many reasons why you may be suffering from excessive sweating. If you have had the condition for some time or you feel your sweating is extreme then the first thing you should do is talk to your preferred medical practitioner.

But if you one of the majority of sufferers of excessive sweating who is embarrassed about the large sweat patches under your arms, or you are terrified of shaking hands because of your sweaty palms then check out these tips on how to stop sweating.

Tip #1 – Relax!

Excessive sweating is a terrible vicious cycle. You sweat a little which makes you embarrassed, anxious and tense. Your tension and anxiety then makes you sweat a little more… And so the cycle continues until your clothes are saturated.

Now, think about a time when you didn’t sweat so much. Chances are you were in a relaxed state of mind. You were probably alone or with a loved one, away from the social anxiety that your sweating causes. At these times it didn’t matter whether you sweated or not. Who would care?

So it is logical to say that the most powerful strategy for how to stop sweating is simply to not care.

By mastering the psychological aspects of your excessive sweating you will considerably reduce the severity of your condition. And by using some excessive sweating control strategies it is much easier than you think.

Here is an example of how this might work:

You are in the car on your way to the office. Usually this is one of your most anxious times because you are worried about the sweat marks building up on your business shirt before you have even arrived at the office. But today, instead of wearing your business shirt, you are wearing a t–shirt. You think to yourself “who cares if I sweat right now? – I’ll be putting on my clean business shirt once I arrive at the office.” Immediately you will feel more relaxed and as a result you will reduce your sweating.

Now, you may be sceptical because the example above only deals with one small situation but in a very realistic and pragmatic way you can manage your entire day using a variety of control strategies.

And remember that the key is not the specific control strategy you use; it is the reduction in your stress and anxiety levels that will ultimately reduce your excessive sweating.

Tip #2 – What not to wear

When you first start to apply control strategies to manage your excessive sweating it is important to become sensitive to things that reduce your sweating and things that exacerbate your condition.

Important examples are the clothes you wear and antiperspirant products that you apply. You should always experiment to find what works best for you but here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Choose clothes made from breathable natural fibres. Avoid wearing man-made materials such as nylon directly next to your skin.
  • Pick clothes in styles that are most comfortable for you. Ignore all advice about what you should wear – just pick items from your wardrobe that work best for you personally.
  • Choose a good antiperspirant product. Make sure the label says antiperspirant – and not just deodorant. Experiment with different brands and see if any improve your condition.
  • Try wearing dress shields. In the short term, choose disposable ones and carry a few spares with you.

Tip #3 – Be prepared

Carrying a few key items with you is probably the best thing you can do to immediately reduce your anxiety and, as a result, reduce your excessive sweating. I recommend the following items:

  • A spare shirt or blouse.
  • A spare pair of socks or tights.
  • Some disposable dress shields.
  • Some moist wipes to maintain your hygiene and help to cool you down.
  • A can or bottle of antiperspirant.

Ideally you with have these items on-hand at all times. You can read more about how I used this strategy in my article on how I beat my excessive underarm sweating.

What to do next?

I hope these tips inspire you to take some action. Each and every one will, to some extent, help to reduce or stop excessive sweating.

Remember there is currently no miracle solution to this condition so your best bet is to do lots of these small things that together will make a big difference in your life.

If you need more detailed guidance be sure to check out my excessive sweating product review section. There you will find some great resources on how to stop sweating.

I’ve just made a list of all the things that make me sweat – both physically and psychologically, including what i do to try and stop/reduce. I’ve tried googling ’stop sweating’ and other key words, but i am scepticle about spending my money on some internet junk!
I’ll see how my plan goes and hopefully remember to post back on this website. There has to be hope out there for us, i just know it!! Just think of Tony Blair and how much he used to sweat. There’s aluminium chloride or something like that, that could help us :)
Best of luck guys

Hey, I too suffer from a sweat problem and its really embarressing. For a guy it may look bad but for a girl its considered gross. I can’t even think of buying anything off of the internet, unless its for school, or my dad will freak. I’m just hoping it will subside. The only peice of advice I have to give any other girls who see this is that the clinical strength stuff doesn’t work, and the one by Degree smells funny.

Don’t waste your money on e-books that promise to “cure” your excessive sweating. They are just full of stupid ideas like when you start to sweat take a shower. Who can do that in every situation?! I ordered 2 different e-books and immediately asked for a refund cause they were full of this kind of useless information. Don’t waste your time or money on them.

Guys

For years i have no longer suffered with excessive sweat or marks on my clothes, after discovering Dryclor this is a fabulous product, cheap to buy and will give you the confidence back you used to have.

Simply apply before bed in the area where you sweat,in the morning wash and dry yourself off and you will notice in a few hours, no more sweat.

Re-apply once a fornight for about 6 weeks, then no need to do for several months.

It works…and its not expensive to try out.

I told all my mates and they now swear by it.

Remember the name…

DRYCLOR

For excessive sweating

Thanks buddy. I’m doing everything you’ve mentioned. I’m a guy who can sweat like a pig (even though I’m physically fit and healthy). It also happens when I’m having sex. It really bothers me because I don’t want to be offensive to my girlfriend. She tells me it turns her on but I don’t know how that can possibly be. She calls it “man musk”. I call it “man stench”. I’m doing everything you’ve mentioned. I’m happy to learn that I’m not the only guy with this problem. Thanks for your article.

Im really tired of it. i always wear a jacket or sweater and no underarm anitperspirants work im going to try driclor but i dont know if it will work
Is there anything else i can do????

12 kim October 29, 2008 at 7:01 pm

Hi guys, I suffer from the same problem, and it only started when I was at uni…i have tried driclor, and its super itchy and irritable….i was looking at the e book….stop sweatig and start living, but im guessing its a scam..its such a horrible problem, i feel its at its worst when i get nevous..i aslo tried a product in spain it was similar to driclor, i think it was calle dpersperex but it was also irritable..i really hope there is some hope for us..its a horrible problem to live with..the fear of lifting your arms up

13 Melanie November 1, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Driclor has been the best thing for me, i started using it in 2006 I’d apply it like once a month, and now I’m down to applying it like once evey three months. So it does work, atleast for me, I know it itches at times, but before you apply make sure that your skin is dry because the if its applied on a wet surface the irritation can get real bad. I hope it works for everyone else as well as it has for me.

14 Jasmin November 20, 2008 at 2:17 pm

HEy, im only 15 and i juss entered high school and im noticing that i have been sweating like almost everyday =/. I have never sweat so much & the weird part is that when im home i dont sweat at all. I have never sweat so much like this and i think its because i qet nnervous that people r qunna see ma swear stains. This has really caused an issue for me and i wanna fix it. I want it like the qood old days, i think ive been sweating a lonq time aqo but not like how i am now. Is there any deodorant that can fight excessive sweating ?

15 Richard December 1, 2008 at 8:33 pm

Hey everyone, iam not going to ramble on my story because iam just like everyone else. We are all the same because we are all looking for a answer. (pardon my spelling iam on my ipod :P ) Having sweaty armpits suck, luckly it is winter and i can wear a hoodie/sweater everyday.

My advice to who ever is curious is to try and not pay attention. For me at least i think it is all in my head. If you think you are gonna sweat , your most likely going to. Try putting a lil bit of rubbing alchol + antipersprant. I know its hard to do but i know it will work. Enjoy yourself and try your best not to think about it. But even i cant do that all the time , i still sweat but i have calmed down slighlty, like i still have stains but its not as big ( if that makes any sence lol)

If anyone has any tips for canadians please post haha

16 Jaimy December 9, 2008 at 8:12 am

Thanks for these advices …
I sweat like every1 does… I can’t stop sweating… but I try my best to avoid it… my problem is that I live in a VERY hot country…
I’m fit and healthy “Thank God” so fat is not my problem… I really miss girly tight t-shirts :( , but couldn’t find any other way more comfortable than wearing guy’s t-shirts that give u more space!

so try this out girls, and say bye to sweat stains [u need to sacrifice some feminine outfits :( ]

17 rachel December 15, 2008 at 12:30 pm

i have the exact same problem, it’s so embarresing and i hate it. i told my mom and she took me to the doctor, and he gave me this stuff called drysol. it sucks, its irritable, and i hated it. so i stopped using it. NOTHING WORKS. i’m even considering botox. i don’t know what to do :( help anyone?

18 Daniel December 16, 2008 at 11:42 pm

I’ve been skateboarding and going for a walk and as soon as i leave the house i start sweating in about 1 min or less and it’s really ingoring i want to know the awswer to my problem that cause my sweat so is there anything i can have that will stop my cause of sweat?

19 Pam December 26, 2008 at 7:25 pm

i have been diagnosed with excessive sweating, called hyperhydrosis. I have been suffering from sweating for over five years. I have tried drysol and i have even used botox. While botox was pretty painful, i did find that it worked wonders for me which is why i continously got it done. It was the best thing i could ever help for, besides the pain. However, botox injections is pretty pricey for those who administer it, so i have found that my dermotologist office dosent do the procedure anymore because its so pricey. Like i said, it was like a miracle to me, but now i am back to sweating all the time cause i cant get the shots anymore. It is so embarrissing to be 20 years old and not even be able to wear flip flops because i sweat so much. Can Anyone give me ideas of something that i havent tried?

20 Rachael December 27, 2008 at 11:13 am

Sweating is actually your body’s response to heat. If you completely stop sweating, it won’t help to cool your body down. I am a little chunky and I’m not all that active but I sweat like crazy. So I started carrying extra shirts with me to change into at school and wearing flip-flops even in the winter. I also avoid public places that have a lot of people or have someone with me that will always keep me calm. It’s best just not to worry. For the ladies, wear a halter dress and spray a little perfume under the arms before putting on deodorant. If it’s cold, wear a cotton shawl with the patterns that make it easy for the body to get air. When you feel a sweat coming on, make an excuse to run to the bathroom, wipe away the sweat with a tissue/toilet paper and reapply the deodorant. (: It works! I do it a lot. If going to the bathroom becomes a problem to relieve your sweat, make up the excuse you have a bladder infection. lol. Good luck to all!!

21 Josh January 4, 2009 at 2:36 pm

I am only 16 and have been suffering for about 2 years its really embarassing.I try to wear white or black t-shirts as the sweat is not as visible with them. Nobody i know has this problem so it makes it even worse. I just want to go back to those days where i felt good about myself and didnt worry about sweating ad whether people will see it. It really puts my self confidence down.

I have tried driclor but it didnt work and made me get
really bad rashes.I went to the doctor about it and he said there is nothing they can do for me :( as i am too young to have surgery to fix it.

I find that when i go to bed the sweating completely stops and when i am at home i still sweat but i sweat less than when i am at places like school. Maybe it is all in my head i really dont know but i just want it to stop.

22 Whitney January 5, 2009 at 3:08 pm

I’m the same as all of you. I’m 13 and i noticed this problem last spring, and i am starting to get really fed up with it. I’ve tried: Certain Dri (oww), Secret Clinical Strength, that natural Crystal thing, Mutchum for women, Lady Speed Stick Clinical Proof, and Tussy. It’s starting to get expensive. NOTHING WORKS! IM BEING COMPLETELY HONEST WHEN I SAY THAT! If you find something that works for you, be verrrrry grateful, because a lot of us haven’t. Any ideas? :/

27 Chase January 27, 2009 at 7:48 pm

Hi

I have a problem with excessive sweat all the time. Maybe i’m hot natured or something. Does anyone have a suggestions on some type of supplement or natural product I can take to help cut down on the excessive sweating?

28 Crystal January 29, 2009 at 12:05 am

Wow-
It’s so comforting to see others with my problem, I thought I was going crazy.
I’m 16 and the sweating just started in early 2008-
I can barely even remember what its like to just be able to throw on any color of shirt and rush out the door.
I thought it was some weird bonus to Puberty like the last step no one tells you about, but I wear deodrant and don’t see many of my friends with this problem.
In less than a year most of my wardrobe has gone from various vibrant colors to black and white, everyone says I’m emo but I’m really just Self Concious.

Blah. Is it just a phase- will I grow out of it??

I just want this to be over.

29 Jessie January 29, 2009 at 11:17 pm

I dont know what to do anymore, I use secret clinical strength and it has worked a little bit for me, it just calms me down to trust the product. I have been suffering from this since the 6th grade and now that I have a boyfriend I dont know what he thinks of me, if it is that he has noticed at all. If anyone has any tips on how to just relax and not think about it would be really great :)

30 Sarah Sponda February 5, 2009 at 10:30 am

I have excessive sweating for 15 years now. Like most I have tried every deodorant on the market and it does not work. I have recently found a dermatologist, in Missouri that uses lipsuction technique to suck out the sweat glands under the armpits. From the research that I have done it seems pretty successful. The problem does not go away on its own. I have had countless people over the years tell me it is no big deal it is all in my head. But it is a big deal and has impacted my life negatively in that I do not go to places because of the fear of being embarrased. Look into it it is work it. The center is located in St. Louis, MO. There is a female doctor that specializes in this and she has written many articles on this problem.

31 ashley P. February 9, 2009 at 9:06 am

im only 13 and i’ve been sweating like heck since about 2ish tears ago. my fear is that if i get “Stop sweating and start living” and it doesnt work, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!? im scared and this is ruining my life and dont live, i suffer. i try telling my mom but she doesnt understand and she thinks its all “nonsence”. i need help

32 Lisa February 21, 2009 at 2:20 pm

I am 13 and I’ve been sweating A LOT for about 2 years. I’m too embarrassed about it to tell my mom because whenever I try to ask her for a stronger deodorant she tells me that everyone sweats a little, but I have huge sweat stains on all my shirts. Does anyone know if “Stop sweating and start living” really works? What does it say?

33 Bassel February 28, 2009 at 10:03 am

Something has worked for me which is this: 1.Dont think about it. 2.Even if you start sweating dont try to hide it or get obsessed by the fact that your armpits are sweating. the trick is to relax when around people dont let this get to you, even if people notice it dont be concerned as long as you shave, shower, deodorant, perfume there’s no way you’re gonna be smelly even if you sweat alot, i myself used to sweat were most of my t-shirt is soaked up until the chest, the more you accept it and dont let it affect u the better it gets

34 Rebecca March 1, 2009 at 11:41 pm

My name is Rebecca and i have a terrible sweating problem. As soon as I leave the house I can feel myself start to sweat but I can’t stop it. My shirts get soaked in sweat and it is so embarressing. I have to keep my armpits to my sides at all times. and my shirts get terrible yellow stains from my sweat – I have ruined all my white shirts with awful stains. I don’t know what to do, so many internet sites offer quick fix cures for a high price but I worry that they are all scams. Has anyone actually read ’stop sweating and start living’ and can anyone tell me what it says?

At the moment I use Dryclor at night but it so so painful! it gives me a terrible rash and i can barley sleep with it on because it hurts my armpits so much! and I don’t think it is even working!

At the moment I always try to wear shirts which have patterns rather than a solid colour because i find it hides the sweat better but this is not a long term solution!

I need help and i don’t know what to do!

35 YouOweMeASoda. March 10, 2009 at 5:56 pm

I tried using Secret clinical, and now i am using Degree clinical, and i still sweat like crazy. If i’m hot, i sweat, if i’m cold, i sweat, if i am comfortable, i sweat. I don’t know what to do, i mean i’m using clinical anti-persperant and it doesn’t work and i apply as the directions say every night. Help?!

36 WhydoWeNeedToSuffer?!! March 20, 2009 at 12:27 am

ahhh…. I feel relieved that im not alone!! Please does anyone know whats in the “Stop Sweating and Start Living” book? I dnt really know if its a scam or what… I just want this curse to be gone like.. forever!! its so annoying… Ill try the relaxation thing… Ill just hope for the best…

37 Lois Laedlein March 20, 2009 at 12:28 pm

I have had 4 surgeries for hyperhydrosis and I am still sweating. It is the sympathetic nervous system doing it. It sets the adrenalin running. I have tried everything I can find and have had no luck. If only we could get the parasympathetic system to fight back. I wish somebody would just please help, I am desperate.

38 lilian March 28, 2009 at 8:34 am

i to have sweating problems in my underarms its emberrasing because i love to wear light colors and you could seee the pit stain like last week i was wearing green my pit staing was going to my waist so i went to the restoom and dried it on the hand dryer and most of it didnt come out uh it sucks i need help…

39 me200 March 29, 2009 at 11:52 pm

I’m so over having to wear black tops everyday! It really pisses me off that there’s no sure-fire way to stop my underarm sweating, I just want to run around(in whatever COLOR top I WANT) and not have to worry about it or be wearing jackets all the time, I hope they find somthing soon!

40 Sarah April 14, 2009 at 12:54 am

Hi guys.
So, I’m pretty sure that my problem may not be as severe as others. But, let’s face it, having stains in general is embarrassing. I know that when I start to sweat it only gets worse as the day goes on. The weird thing for me is that I always have to change my deodorant because after a while they stop working. I’m definitely going to try the ” not caring” idea. It’s worth a shot.

But a suggestion for people like lilian, go ahead and wear colours! You can’t just be stuck wearing dark colors for the rest of your life. But bring a sweater to school. Always have one just in case. If you know you have that option you won’t worry as much. And if it gets to the point where your embarrassed about stains, then put it on and you won’t have to worry anymore! Hope that helps a bit :)

41 Nicky April 15, 2009 at 1:23 am

Hi there. I am 30 yrs old and have suffered with hyperhydrosis from age 11. I underwent surgery at age 22 and have suffered with terrible compensatory sweating ever since. I too have tried everything and fear that this rotten syndrome will be with me for the rest of my life. Has anyone out there in excessive sweating land ever tried hypnosis or any holistic therapies? What about diet? Do some food groups make you sweat more or less?

42 Sarah April 16, 2009 at 10:41 pm

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that salty foods and onions make you sweat more…

43 vicky April 21, 2009 at 6:00 pm

i too, like many, suffer from excessive sweating. ONE thing i found that helped me was bathing with ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP. no, it does not stop sweating completely, but it does help. so does applying baby powder after applying deodorant(:

44 pedrita April 21, 2009 at 9:58 pm

I am trying Drysol for at least one year, first it works very good but recently it is starting not working so good, im afraid about it because i was so happy with the results im studying pshycology and its all in our minds but i cant stop thinking on it

45 Leslie April 22, 2009 at 10:49 am

Hi people…im 15,and i started sweating when I started high school. I HATE IT!!!! Ive tried all the “clinical strength” products, but they dont work AT ALL…I agree with a lot of people here and think that it happens when I think about it too much, but ive tried not thinking about it but it still happens out of nowhere…Idk but this stupid sweating thing has made my freshman year hell…oh also I live in Phoenix, Arizona where it is over 100 degrees for more than half of the year..so it makes it so much worse…ive become really depressed and i dont know what to do anymore..

46 Lace May 12, 2009 at 10:49 pm

As everyone else i TOO suffer from this horrible curse….Has anyone tried certain dry?? I have tried everything on the shelves but i came across it in the superstore today…any testimonials?

47 Ken May 14, 2009 at 9:38 pm

I’m 15 years old, boy. ANd I too suffer from hyperhydrosis. My palms, feet, armpit, forehead, upperlip even my groin! Its really embarrassing, even if I try to calm down it just makes it worse, this really ruins my social life, and it lowers my self confidence. My palms are the worse, they are sweaty like 85% of the time, and the 15% sometimes their just dry, very dry. My foreheads and upperlip don’t sweat much unless im REALLY nervous, or when I get evertyones attention. They don’t sweat randomly like my palms, feet, and armpit do, even my groin. I’m still trying to find medications, i’ve tried drysol, and they only seem to work on my armpits, not my palms or any other places. I’ve done some research about “Oxybutnin” and I noticed that it worked for msot people, and im planning to try it out. Hopefully it works, I wish it does. I’ve done some reasearch on it, and its suppose to be for ‘bladder’ problems, and thats good! Because I also have an overreactive bladder, so the medicine will take x2 effect on me. I live my daily life like every other person, my pits dont sweat that much to the point where it shows circles under my shirt, unless im nervous. When I shake hands will people I try to come up with a reason not to do it, or sometimes I wear long sleeve shirts, and shake hands with my sleeves over my palms. This excessive sweating issue is really affecting all of our lives, I wish one day. One day, someone will find the cure for this, and hopefully it doesn’t cost to much. God bless ya’ll.

48 Cheryl May 20, 2009 at 12:27 am

I read through the posts today as I recently joined this site for support. This is a very hard thing to live with and I see common themes through all of the stories I read. I can understand, but I don’t have it, the embarrassment of the excessive sweating. I simply don’t care if I have a shirt that has sweat on it in an area. I figure that people can look at something else other than me if it is a problem for them. I, however, get very hot, then cold, and then get goosebumps, sometimes followed by a chilled feeling. This is not consistent however. I was considering Botox injections and insurance and finding a good doctor were obstacles. Someone in my family offered to pay finally for one treatment. Something stopped me. I asked my regular homeopathic physician to research. I urge anyone considering this option to google Botox as recently it has made the news. As with surgery, Botox can cause compensatory sweating. And if you have sweating all over, it will likely be less effective. Additionally, it is a toxin that seems to be safe when properly administered. However, apparently, there are cases where the toxin has entered the body causing serious side effects. No cases that I found were related to hyperhidrosis; however, treatment for other FDA approved uses have caused problems. I think one should approach treatments carefully and systematically. That is what I like about Howard’s suggestions. OK, maybe it will take awhile or might not work (might work also), but it should be tried before going to the “fixes” many desperate people like ourselves might try. Also, underlying medical conditions should be ruled out, like thyroid disease (Graves’), Addison’s disease, pituitary disorders, amongst others. I want to respond to this “it is all in your head” feeling. I never was a sweater–ever. During the times I didn’t sweat, I was actually undergoing a lot of anxiety. I didn’t even use antiperspirant–just deodorant if that. Instead, a lot of times certain weather like wind on a hot day will cause sweating where no anxiety is present. I can be in 20 degree weather and still sweat wearing a t-shirt, of course with a small coat over it. Granted, I think that anxiety from the fear of sweating will exacerbate it, but I don’t believe anxiety is the cause or it is in our heads. But I have used some of the strategies, even avoiding unnecessary situations that seem to bring on sweating, because I believe the brain creates a memory when exposed to a stressful situation over and over again. And I took Howard’s advice, carrying emergency items, when I have to enter situations. It does help. I was already doing it but not being as organized as I should be. I still need to work on it. I did try Certain Dri. But I agree one person’s situation will not be another’s. The suggestion to put it on dry skin is a good one. And back off if redness comes on. Also, try different products in an organized way. I don’t agree there is a direct link to breast cancer or anything from use of aluminum anymore. This is after research and talking to my doc. Another option is considering anticholinergic drugs. Here is a link to an article on one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxybutynin.
Elavil might also work. These have side effects, but surgery is permanent. Removal of the sweat glands is a big move and not reversible. Believe me, after seven years, it has been terrible. I have often wondered if I can continue to live this way. But for some reason, a few months ago, I decided I was going to fight this and go out as much as I could armed with my emergency kit to try to live. And before drastic measures, even though I have been seeing a physician for a long time and have seen many, I was going to try this website’s suggestions. Also I would suggest The Art of Mindful Living as a relaxation technique. Often, the library will order CDs and has books for free. And I will proceed forward from there. I know this was long, but I wanted to give input, because I know what the desperate feelings can cause a person to do. One last weird suggestion. I use an icepack on my stomach region or just in a pocket. It seems to signal the brain and reduces sweating. It is like it tells my brain to stop producing sweat. I found this out one day when I was drenched in sweat and in a grocery store. I took off my sweater and walked down the cold part of the store. It was difficult, but the sweat dried almost instantly and I felt better. Weird but it helps. I think it signals to the brain that I am not hot and the sweat production can be slowed. I could say so much more, but I have already said too much. Good luck and I will definitely be back. At least, there are others who understand. BTW, I would be cautious of buying books/anything that promises a quick fix for sweating like we have. Use your library if possible.

50 SWEAT BADLY June 8, 2009 at 7:56 pm

My hands, feet, underarms, and around my vagina sweat mostly all of the time. If I walk around or just get out of the shower, I almost sweat everywhere! I sweat excessively bad. Always have. I’m not a big person at all, skinny. Been sweating since I was little. Any help or tips? It is so embarrassing! I also hate when I get out of the shower & immediately start sweating everywhere…I feel dirty all over again. If I do start using Driclor…is it safe to use around vagina, where can you buy it at, and how much does it cost? Any other tips would be great! Thank You!

52 Willow June 24, 2009 at 2:10 am

I suffer from excessive sweating of my face and neck and back, its become a nightmare to go out to social functions as i look ok for about 5mins then my face starts to sweat and im running to the bathroom every 10 mins. My hair goes flat and out of shape and i feel like crap the last time i went out, i spent most of the evening outside as the sweating was so bad. I dont suffer from underarm sweating or sweaty feet just the facial, neck and back areas. My doc told me it was to do with my panic attacks but it happens even when im relaxed. I cant even walk down the road with out looking like ive run a marathon, its stopping me from going out more often. I have been using ODABAN and it has helped some what, but if i forget to put it on the nite before then the sweating soon comes back with a vengence.
Its all very depressing and the things you find online about it tend to not give you any actual help to combat it.
Ive tried the “not thinking about it” and that doesnt work, if its hot and other ppl are feeling the heat then im melting in a corner somewhere.
Even in cold weather i sweat on my face and neck and back. Its making me a bit of a recluse. All any of us want is some actual help to stop it!

53 Brian June 24, 2009 at 4:43 pm

@Cheryl – Cheryl, The reason you stopped sweating in the cooler section of your grocery store is because the cooling system cools by pulling moisture out of the air. The air is naturally drier in an area where there is refrigeration, and that contributes to less sweating. You will notice that sweat increases in humid conditions.

my problem is quite similar to willow. I have a very bad problem with sweaty facial and scalp.I can’t even go out for a dinner with friends and so on. the problem became worst when there is no fresh air circulating. I dont think this problem starting worsen because of my panic sensation, even when I am sitting alone in my room, my face starts to sweating unforgivingly, even till now i don’t even have a girlfriend. please response and tell me what to do!!!

I can’t believe how many people are going through the same thing I am. I thought I was the only one, and that my life just sucked. But after reading all these posts I can’t believe how many people are in the same position. I’m 15 and i started sweating in 6th grade. It was so embarassing. I still do, and i can’t wear tight shirts or bright colored shirts anymore because of my underarm sweat. I’m going to try drisol. I’m at the point where I don’t even care anymore, i’m so desperate that i’ll do anything at this point. My high school years are being ruined because of my sweating issue & i thank everyone that posted information to help. Best of luck to everyone.

56 lara August 17, 2009 at 12:36 pm

i have had sweaty hands, feet and face since i was 5 years old.,im 21 now.2 years ago i tried driclor for my under arms, for the first few weeks it stung like MAD but i just put up with the pain because i was desperate. After a month of using it ,my underarms were completly dry. i was amazed! Driclor does work ,you just need to be patient with it but the problem i have now with it is that its stopped working :( after 2 years of using it. i have read alot of people have had the same problem. i recently read about odaban and ordered it online. iv been using it for 5 days on my hands, feet and face but so far im still sweating,im going to carry on using it for another couple of weeks on my armpits too.

i spoke to my doctor about Iontophoresis.its a device where you put your hands or feet or both placed into two open trays. The trays are then filled with water. The Iontophoresis device conducts mild electrical currents through water while your hands or feet are immersed in the trays.it can also be used for underarms.it has nearly an 83% success rate) according to the American Academy of Dermatology heres the link -http://www.sweatguard.co.uk/Iontophoresis/Iontophoresis

you can get free treament at hospitals but you are going to need to have a lot of time free time because treatment needs to be done 2 or 3 times a week and then reduced to 1. so iv decided to buy my own device and do the treatment at home. im not quite sure what device is best to buy,i have to speak to my doctor about that.

As a hyperhidrosis sufferer i know how difficult and embarrassing it can.it has lowered my confidence and self esteem. i just hope that one day you can all be free from this condition :( and you can find a treatment that works well for you. goodluck everyone and il let you know how my new treatments go.

p.s. someone said can she put driclor on her vagina cos she sweats there.PLS DO NOT!!!!!! it is not safe and if you have shaved your armpits do not apply driclor on that day it will sting alot. with these products less is more. so do not apply too much or it wont work.

Intresting video below on sweating. pls watch.

Hi fellow hyperhidosis sufferes,
I’m 13 and have suffered with this horrible condition for 2 years. I don’t know what else to do.! I have tryed all the antipirspirants (or however you spell it) but they don’t work. Well Michum® worked for about 5 minutes. But I go to school and I need something that will last the whole day. I have been begging my mom to buy me “Stop Sweating and Start Living.” She has agreed. So I’m going to try that. Although I don’t know if it works. But hey, with a full money back garentee it’s worth a try, right.? I am desperate for a cure. If the “Stop Sweating and Start Living doesn’t work I’m gonna go to the doctor. It’s gotta be my best bet. I’m willing to try anything. This stupid excessive sweating is just committing social sucide for me.! It’s so embaressing.! I wanna wear colorful shirts. But with this curse all I can wear is black. I look like a freaking emo. Does anyone know any natural remedy’s.? Or something that will put my terrible sweating to rest.?! Please help. Thank You.
Sincerely,
Kayla. <33

58 Bob August 20, 2009 at 10:31 pm

Hi Kayla-

It started for me when I was about 8.
I am 33 now. I have managed it throughout my life.
I have found love several times, and have been married for ten years. I even have a child. Life is somewhat “normal”. It is difficult, and I have to consider it every day. I have much empathy for you.

The best thing that worked for me for anti-cholinergic pills or facial pads. Unfortunately for me, they start with great results. After a few days they start to be less effective, and with much use, have very little effect. Other than that, it has all been worthless to me. I even tried botox. That was embarrassing, and a waste of a lot of money.
Each person has it a little different, so you may find success in things that have not worked for me.
Hang in there.

Bob

60 frank August 24, 2009 at 10:14 am

I’m in the club also but one thing that is a short term solution that truly works is………………drum roll please……………..

“i drink about half a litre of very cold water lets say before i go into a potentially sweaty situation (i.e a meeting , new social engagement etc etc)……..

I’ve had the ETS surgery which does totally stop the sweating from lets say your foreheard, it just means the sweat goes somewhere else, like your chest, back !

There are lots of natural/herb type remedies which im going to try next. I’ll keep you posted if anything changes.

Keep positive………..it’s only sweat !

Hi all
I had this problem about 4 years ago. No normal antiperspiants worked. Used driclor which DID work for me but it stings and itches like hell, practically all night, so make sure you don’t really need your sleep that night. Try your best not to scratch, and make sure you follow the instructions. DON’T put it on too often as I nearly passed, felt giddy and sick and REALLY ill when I put it on twice in the space of three days. You put it on at night (make sure you’re really dry when applying it coz I think I remember that wetness makes it sting and itch more, and wash it off in the morning. Also I agree with some of the previous people keeping relaxed about the problem really helps too. Once I thought I’d beaten it (with the driclor, available at Boots)) I think subconciously that helped big time. Also I used a product called Ice Guard from Holland and Barratt which is totally natural and I found that That was good too, can’t remember which one I used last? Try and keep calm, easy to say, I know, but stressing about it REALLY does make it worse. Good luck to you all. I hope some of this helps.

62 Nora August 30, 2009 at 10:47 am

hello!
to cure underarm sweating, order a special antipersperant from amazon.com or ebay.
THE ANTIPERSPERANT MUST HAVE AT LEAST 15-20 % of ALUMINUM CHLORIDE, and it will work perfectly. It’s like Driclor, but a bit less Aluminum chloride, so it itches less.
I am now trying to get Endoscopic Transthoracic Sympathectomy for my palm sweating problems :)

64 Erick August 30, 2009 at 7:27 pm

HI, MY NAME IS ERICK, IM 14 AND I HAVE A SEVERE PROBLEM. Im turning 15, and I will describe how severe my armpit sweat is. I can be on the computer, listening to music, in a total dreamland state, not even thinking about sweat, and if Im shirtless, literally a drop of sweat will drip from my arm like an icicle, onto my leg. After 2 minutes of having a shirt on, just sitting, I will get a circle of sweat, and its three times worse if I do activities, I need to be active, Im trying out for a basketball game, and I need to pull up my game, I need to have time to practise! I wear all the antipersperants you can think of….. please help me, Im very confused and :( , just please email me back. Thank you, if you do e mail me back, you’d be a life saver!

65 j September 3, 2009 at 7:50 am

i have the same problem as all of you who has written here… i dont have only armpit excessive sweat but also in my hands, feet and sometimes in my back when i get really nervous ….
i dont know what to do.. i have read about the treatments and all of them are with side effects which makes me not to try any medicine.
and it’s strange because when im not thinking about sweat and im calm with my family for example i dont have problems but when i meet my friends everything changes… i start to sweat .. it’s embarrasing cuz i cant meet anyone in these conditions. or when my hands are dry i remind- oh my hands are ok.. and in that moment i start sweating.. :S
i cant wear the shoes i want, the blouses i want… :(
and all this starts because i am nervous of being with other people… i care too much but i cant change.. :( .
In addition, i dont think anyone should take medicines to stop this sweat. i know that all of us want to stop this horrible sweat,,,but better living with it then having other worse problems,,excessive sweat is also emotional…and if the emotions are represented with sweat, if there is no more sweat what will happen?where will those emotions go? they may harm any part of the body like heart for example.. :S..
anyway this is just my opinion even though im desperate to get rid of sweat. and this is the reason why NOW i WANT to be A DOCTOR!! :)
wish all of u good luck…

66 jorge September 20, 2009 at 8:05 pm

My friend gave me some advice.
Sweating under the arms in hard to deal with. So she said to try Baby Oil. When in the shower. Rub sme under the arms. Anytime is good though. I hope that may help you. If it doesn’t i apologize

69 Sweaty October 14, 2009 at 4:54 pm

Something tells me I need to talk about this to get past it. I give and attend meetings constantly, hold training classes etc, and just recently this sweating thing started happening. Something may cause me to blush, or flush or be self aware for a moment and SHAZAM I am the amazing sweaty man. Like the guy in the “Airplane” movie. To say it is embarrassing or uncomfortable is a huge understatement. There is no “out” or escape when giving a presentation and I know streams of sweat are about to start trickling down my face. I am with the don’t worry about it approach as that and ackowledging the sweat has seemed to help but I still have to ask….WHY? What caused it to start now? I have been doing the same job, going to dinner etc for ever and it just now started. While I should be enjoying my success at work and in my family life I am worrying about…SWEAT?! You have got to be kidding me. I work way to hard to have a little h20 slow me down. One way or another this too will pass.Well I feel better anyway, hope you all do too.

70 jt October 30, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Hi ,
ive been suffering from excessive sweating FOREVER!! it is not normally uncomfortable and embarrassing! Ive tried many different gels and sprays and creams…. nothing worked.
I can honestly say that i feel for everyone single one of i just read about…. it really really sucks and its horrible.
I recently came across this site odaban.com and after doing ALOT of research on it; finding out if its a scam and all, it seemed legit, so i went ahead and bought it. its not expensive at all. Shipping costs vary depending on where you live….
I strongly urge you guys to go check it out, i just started using it, but i see it working a little already-seriously! I think this is it!
And its not uncomfortable, like some of the gels i used (which took so long to dry and i couldnt sleep normally)
its a spray and dries pretty fast, so you can fall asleep without it bothering you and just have to wash it off in the morning…
Im really excited about this so just go to this site, see what it does for you…
Good luck and if anyone reading this has used this product, please let me know what the outcome was ! THANKS
Good luck to all of you and i hope this works for you – or you find something that does QUICKLY!!!

Good luck everyone and i feel your pain!

71 Haley November 1, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Hey everyone-

Yeah this too has plagued me for the past five years. I have tried all prescription antipersperints as well as driclor and nothing even puts a dent in how much I sweat. Now that I’m at college, I really wish it would just stop so I could start wearing what I actually want.

A huuuuge help was figuring out that fleece shows no sweat whatsoever no matter how much you sweat. It is a big help in the area of embarressment. It sounds crazy but its true. Plus its super comfy. I have quite the collection of fleeces as that is about all I wear now.

Good luck to everyone figuring this frustrating and embarresing ordeal out! Just thought I’d share that tip with everyone–hope it helps!

I started having sweating and lots of underarm odor in the 7th grade. I am in my 30’s now. I just found the solution a few months ago. Certain Dri Roll-On works. I have not tried the solid version. It says 72 hours but I have to apply it every 48 hours or I start sweating and smelling on the 3rd day. You have to apply it at night and do not shave before applying or it will burn. It is also better to apply it at night so that it is not itchy. Make sure your underarms are dry before applying. If they are wet you will wind up scratching your underarms all night. Don’t be put off by that. This stuff works! I am no longer embarrassed by this smell that has embarrassed me since the 7th grade. None of the clinical stuff worked. Certain Dri Roll-On does.

Certain Dri Roll-On. I got mine at CVS.

74 jerry November 18, 2009 at 6:43 am

unfortunately you all forget that we are lucky to sweat…it keeps us healthy….ask a friend who doesn’t sweat how many sick days a year they use compared to you…..I have had none all year, and my tall friend has been out 5 days.
sure it is embarrassing but ya gotta get over it. get those underarm pads, barely noticable…bring 2 pairs of socks every day with you. carry a handerkerchief…this in itself shows how suave you can be.

75 Shelby December 8, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Hey,
i am 13 , and i have had hyperhydrosis on my hands and feet since i was born, it has been passed down from my mom, but even when i ask her what she did to help it she just says she kept wiping her hands and got on with it so obviously her sweating wasnt as bad as mine because wiping my hands doesnt even help :( but its so comforting to know that there are more people out there that have this problem than just me… but where do yous all live!!! it seems like nooo one at my school or in my life has excessive sweating. this has effected my life so much i am to embarrassed to have a boy friend even, if i did i would be avoiding touching him because my hands would be dripping! i mean i am fit and am not over weight, i do excersize at the gym 5-6 times a week but i guess that wouldnt change the condition i have. i live in australia, and the temperatures dont help my condition :/ i tend to shy away from social activities, but at school its pretty hard if you have to play these games that involve holding hands with people who have perfectly dry hands, and then when they touch your hand you see the look on there face and that just takes your self esteem level down again, and makes me want to go run and hide under a rock.
Well i think i am going to hafto try dryclor, i just want to see if it works but i am trying to not get my hopes up to high, if it doesnt end up working. I would have preferred using somehting natural because i heard that aluminium gives you breast cancer and i dont reaally want that… :/ But i guess i am willing to do about anything to stop this. Sorry guys i dont really have any suggestions for yous to do… :/ BUt i just hope – fingers crossed- that dryclor worlks for me :)

im in the same boat as everyone else around here. ive tried diosol, oral medications, botox, and now waiting on my drionic machine to arrive. no relief yet, although my great uncle once told me to try vinegar and it may smell a little funny but if you put a small amount on before your antipersperant, i do notice i do sweat less! try it out…

82 Amy February 2, 2010 at 8:08 am

Here’s my story, and if it helps ONE person, that’s all I hope for!

To start — I’m female, 38, and all tests show NO signs of any menopause, so it’s NOT hot flashes.

It sounds crazy…the absolute uncontrollable sweating to the point that I stay home from family outings, neighborhood events, etc. I used to go out dancing…not anymore. THAT one kills me. I miss going out and having fun! But severe sweating is embarrassing, not to mention uncomfortable!

I sweat when I go outside in the heat or in the cold. Or when I come inside from the cold.

I sweat when I’ll be sitting here at the computer — completely still.

The most severe sweating attacks were right after I got out of bed in the mornings, or right after I got our of the showers. By the time I was done blow-drying my hair, my head — and my entire body — was soaking wet again. It took me 2 1/2 hours to get ready every morning.

I couldn’t walk through the mall. I couldn’t even sit and watch my daughter’s Tae Kwon Do class without breaking a sweat.

The sweating occured mostly on my scalp, head, chest and back. My face and chest would be flushed, and the sweat would just run (NOT JUST *DRIP*) down my head!

The sweating progressively got worse over the past 3 years. My primary care doctor told me it was because of my weight. (I’m approximately 80 pounds overweight.) OK…I can see that. I’ve had 3 foot surgeries in 2 years — I’ve gained some. But this sweating stuff started way before the surgeries and weight gain, I told her.

She sent me to an Endocrinologist, who had me do 48 hour urine tests, tons of bloodwork, and in the end, found nothing. She put me on the Oxybutinen (sp?), and it didn’t help. Sent me to a Neurologist.

(Somewhere in here I’d also been having some problems in my left ear where I could hear my hear beating (VERY loudly) in my left ear. It just started doing it all of a sudden, and wouldn’t stop. It would keep me up at night — I had to buy a sound machine to drown it out. Went to see an ENT and he ordered an MRI, and found nothing.)

Neurogolist ordered an MRI (already had it done), 2 EKGs — one sleep-deprived, and another load of bloodwork. All showed nothing.

What he DID notice on my MRI was a small area that showed I had some history of MIGRAINES. We talked a bit about this, and my migraine PAIN stopped about 3-4 years ago, just about the time the sweating started.

YOU CAN HAVE MIGRAINES WITHOUT THE HEAD PAIN!!! SWEATING IS A TYPE OF MIGRAINE SYMPTOM/SEIZURE!!!

It sounds crazy….I know, but he more people I talk to that have migraines know all about it!

These migraines/seizures can be caused by different types of lights or sounds that didn’t used to bother you, but for some reason, do now! EVERY time I went into this particular Kohl’s store, I’d immediately start sweating. EVERY time I went to *this* place, or *that* place…I guarantee you I’d have an attack.

YES, I’M TYPING IN ALL CAPS NOW… :) I WANT YOUR ATTENTION! I want this to help you.

My neurologist put me on an anti-seizure medication for epilepsy — ZONISAMIDE — AND I’VE BEEN SWEAT-FREE FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS!!! (Along with a special “Low Tyramine Headache Diet” — you’ll have to look it up.)

No problems at the mall, or any store, or getting ready in the mornings. And while I can’t explain it, the very loud heartbeat noise in my ear (for 6 months!!!) is also gone!

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. SEE A NEUROLOGIST IF YOU HAVE TO!

THIS *MAY* BE YOUR ANSWER! I hope it is, because I know how awful this problem can be, and I know how easily it’s dismissed by a doctor. “Oh, it’s just your weight.” Like I said, ok…I’m not saying it’s NOT, but SOMETHING wasn’t right.

Go with your gut. If you know that something’s not right…push on, get an answer!

Good luck! I’d love to hear if you have any luck!

Amy :)
